Johnathan Pryor

John is a fourth year undergraduate studying Economics and Chinese. During the summer of 2008, he interned in the Financial Services Division of AIG, which at the time was preparing to offer “micro financial” services to customers in the developing world. The experience deepened his interest in the relationship between poverty and access to financial services. John joined the DMLI in the fall of 2008, and joined the executive committee in the spring of 2009. During the summer of 2010, he interned in the Financial Planning and Analysis department at the headquarters of FINCA International. He believes that students can and should work to improve the lives of others, one very small step at a time.

Jordan Stone

Jordan Stone is a third year undergraduate at Duke University. His interest in microfinance originated in high school, as he chose to explore microfinance as a solution to the macrofinancing problems facing the World Bank in a research paper. Following his first year at Duke, Jordan interned at Acción Emprendedora (Santiago), an organization specializing in business education, one-on-one consulting, and microfinancial services for small entrepreneurs. Upon returning, Jordan began working with DMLI, participating and organizing a variety of projects promoting member education and eventually led a team charged with creating financial literacy and entrepreneurship curriculum for the Nkokonjeru SACCO, DMLI’s partner in Uganda. Currently, he serves as an Undergraduate Director for DMLI, driving the work of the Local and Events Committee (LEC). In the short term, Jordan is looking to attend medical school and enter the surgical field. Long term, however, he has no doubt that he will utilize his skills and impregnable ambition to improve and empower those who deserve better—financially and medically.

Elizabeth Liedel

Liz is a dual degree candidate at Duke, pursuing an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business and a Master of Environmental Management at the Nicholas School of the Environment. She has been involved in the DMLI since 2008, and has served on the Executive Committee since 2009. She currently co-chairs the Global Initiatives Committee. Last summer, Liz worked for the Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium on an electric vehicle deployment strategy for the state of Oregon. In the summer of 2009, she was a Sustainability Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development in Chapel Hill, developing the Green Plus program that educates and certifies small businesses in the areas of financial stability, environmental sustainability and social responsibility. As part of her coursework, Liz participated in an on-site consulting project for FUNDESER, a non-profit microfinance institution in Nicaragua. She is active in Net Impact, the Association of Women in Business, the Energy Club, and the Outdoors Club at Fuqua.

Cameron Davis

Cameron is a dual degree candidate at Duke, pursuing an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business and a Master of Public Policy at the Sanford School of Public Policy. He has been involved with DMLI since 2008.  Cameron’s policy focus is the intersection of commerce and Latin America.  The past two summers, Cameron has interned with Coca-Cola’s Multicultural Marketing and worked as a strategic consultant for a US firm expanding operations in Brazil.  Cameron believes that applying business models to social problems is an effective way to alleviate poverty.
